Essex Folk

5th February 2012
Posted by Gateway 97.8

Yes, this was a repeat of the show today due to technical difficulties last week.  Thanks to Ros and all at the Gateway team for giving us another chance to hear Essex Folk.  Hosted by myself, Jo Overfield and Chris Davison, with guest Matt Boulter of The Lucky Strikes.  Matt’s debut album; The Whispering Pines, is out now.  Go and check him out live or contact him on his Facebook site here:

We predict lovely, big things for Mr Matt Boulter so keep an eye, no TWO EYES, on this man.  Your Essex Folk hosts attended The Lucky Strikes gig at The Ship, Leigh-on-sea, on Friday, 3rd February and it was a corker.  Their ‘Whiskey in a Jar’ cover was a bit special.  Banjo’s, accordians, a bassist that looks like an accountant, a drummer from the Shire and beardigan Matt – what’s not to love??  They put on a good show, you must check them out.  If you haven’t heard the PJ Harvey ‘Let England Shake’ dark-side-of-folk album, then do.  DO.  It’s a fantastic piece of work.  Even UNCUT magazine granted it Album of 2011.

We shall have a new Essex Folk show for you in a few weeks time with our spoken word slot WORD UP and some DODGY VINYL.  So do keep checking in on the Gateway 97.8 website please.  Be careful in the snow chaps, get yourself a moon boot or two.  Yeah, don’t just go out wearing one, that’s ridiculous!
