F1 News Update with Charlie

On Monday 15th June, Charlie from Radio Club presented an F1 news update on Daytime on Gateway 97.8. The update covers all the latest news from the F1 world including how the sport is dealing with the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Here’s what was mentioned in this weeks update:

  1. Three more F1 Races have been cancelled. The Azerbaijan, Japanese and Singapore Grand Prix’s have become the latest F1 races to be cancelled due to the Coronavirus Pandemic joining Australia, Monaco and Holland on the cancellation list. F1 will consider racing at other circuits and assess how the situation on Covid-19 in the coming weeks and months ahead.
  2. More F1 teams will hold private testing sessions ahead of the start of the 2020 season. Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon will perform shakedown laps of a Renault RS.18 at the Red Bull Ring in Austria on June 16th and 17th and that will also be followed by a shakedown run at Silverstone National as Lance Stroll tests Racing Point’s RP20 challenger on June 17th. June 24th will see the shakedown run of the Alpha Tauri ATO1 at Imola and ether Pierre Gasly or teammate Daniil Kyvat will be behind the wheel on that date. All teams and drivers will follow the FIA’s Covid-19 guidelines as they gain vital track time ahead of the start of the season on July 5th in Austria.
  3. Renault have become the first F1 team to add face coverings to it’s official range of branded merchandise. One mask costs £4.49 and a pack of 5 costs around £25.00. The face coverings feature the brands new DP World Tour title sponsor which is what the team will be running on both of their cars during the 2020 F1 season. Renault claims that wearing the mask reduces the transmission of Covid-19 by 90 percent.
  4. Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Raikkonen is considering his future at Alfa Romeo Racing and F1 at the end of the season. Raikkonen is in his last year of his current contract at Alfa Romeo Racing as of 2020 and will decide on his plans for 2021 once the season is finished.
