F1 update – 22nd June 2020

On daytime, Charlie Tolhurst of Gateway 97.8 Radio Club presented a live update. The F1 update covered all the latest news in the sport.

Here’s what was mentioned on this week’s update:

  1. More F1 teams will be holding private tests ahead of the 2020 season which starts at the Red Bull Ring in Austria on July 5th 2020. Alfa Tauri will hold a private test at Imola in Italy with Pierre Gasly and teammate Daniil Kvyat driving the ATO1, whilst Ferrari shakedown a 2018 SF72H at Mugello as drivers Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc gear up for the season after the neverending Covid 19 shutdown. All teams will follow the health and saftey protocoals to curb the spread of Coronavirus.
  2. F1 have confirmed the tyre compounds for the two British F1 races at Silverstone. The British GP will feature the harder compounds, C1 [hard], C2 [medium] and C3 [soft] tyre whilst the 70th Anniversary GP will receive the softer compounds, hard [C2], medium [C3] and soft [C4] tyres.
  3. Former F1 driver and two time CART (Championship Auto Racing Teams) champion Alex Zanardi is currently in hospital in Italy after a huge crash. Zanardi is currently in ICU and has been undergoing neurosurgical surgery after suffering a life threatening crash after he hit a lorry whilst practicing his handbike racing. He currently remains in a stable condition.
