With the emphasis on the word “Soul” from the title of my show, I chose some particularly chilled out and relaxing tracks for my Monday evening in the studio this week – hopefully they will sound equally good come the repeat play on Saturday at 5pm !
The first “Soul Soother” is a little known track featuring Luther Vandross recorded as a duet with Cheryl Lynn for her 1982 LP “Instant Love” just before he crossed into the mainstream with the first re-issue of “Never Too Much”. The second “Soul Soother” is another duet, this time featuring Phylis Hyman performing with Michael Henderson, and you’ll be hearing a few more of her tunes on the show over the next few weeks as I’ve been enjoying dipping into her back catalogue at home !
The “Short-Trousered Soul” track would have been a nightmare for DJs to write onto their playlists back in the 70s or 80s but in these “copy & paste times” it’s not such an issue, so I was perfectly happy to select one of Diana Ross’s big hits from 1972 – see below for the full title ! 😉 It was also Patrice Rushen’s 59th birthday on Monday, so I added in one of her lesser known songs instead of wheeling out “Forget Me Nots” yet again, and with Al Green, Jean Carn, Stevie Wonder & Earth Wind & Fire all in the mix too, you can see it’s a soul show with a capital “S” this week – sit back & enjoy !
