Over the last couple of years I have tried to get to as many of the regular soul gigs that I plug on my show as possible, which is not easy as I usually work on Saturday nights myself ! However, most boxes have now been ticked and I’ve met many fellow soul fans who have become valued Facebook Friends and re-connected with a number of soul DJs I haven’t seen for a few years – decades in one or two cases !! The one that had so far slipped the net is also one of the longest established and most popular, but last Saturday, having worked all day instead of in the evening, I was finally able to attend “Soul By The Jetty” at the Lobster Smack on Canvey Island – and so pleased I did. It’s a smashing venue, perfectly recapturing the feel of the old Goldmine which was situated a short walk away, well attended by a friendly crowd containing several familiar faces, who danced all night, helped by a super sound system which poured out top tune after top tune provided by a team of onfire DJs – can’t wait to get back !! And I won’t be able to help myself “nicking” a couple of the tracks played for my show over the next few weeks … but here is this week’s selection:
