Neil Gits Tortured !

13th July 2026
Posted by Neil Matthew

Though I live in a rather pleasant suburban area, which is generally quiet and peaceful, it does have its moments, often involving unexpected noise disturbing my relaxed frame of mind ! These usually soon pass – a car getting a thorough power-wash, a lawn being rigorously mowed, a bit of banging & drilling as a nearby property undergoes some DIY and of course the occasional boy (or girl!) racer tearing down the road on a motorbike or in what sounds like an F1 car !!

My street is something of an artery, serving numerous side-roads and cul-de-sacs, and the front of my house is pretty close to the pavement so at this time of year, in the peak of summer, you really do need to have your windows open constantly, which doesn’t help. Another issue is that due to the creative layout of the houses around me, I do have quite a large number of near-neighbours and lately it has been keeping the rear windows open all day which has been causing me to suffer …

Being a confirmed nightbird, I tend not to eat my meals at the same time as many people. I love my food, especially steaks, sausages, bacon, chicken – all the stuff that’s probably not great for your health ! – and whenever I am getting peckish, you can bet there are half a dozen families nearby, out in their gardens at the weekend enjoying endless burgers, hot dogs & kebabs, with the tempting smells wafting into my house from all directions. I’ve heard some locals over the years refer to my hometown as “BBQ City” and we also have quite a large number of Chinese, Indian, Pizza and other fast food outlets for such a small place which don’t help !

They are all at it right now as I type this and I can’t concentrate on this blog any more so I am going to have to heat up one of the leftover slices from last night’s “Medium Deep Pan Meaty One” from Asda with some chips before I can re-focus and crack on with preparing this week’s next LIVE show for Monday evening. Here’s what I played last time out …
