Whether it’s through catwalk collections, the street-style of our favourite celebrities or what the biggest TikToker is wearing in their latest video: the places we turn to for fashion and style inspiration are varied and depend on who we look up to.

However, for Generation Z (those born in the mid-to-late 1990s to the early 2010s) traditional glossy magazines, Fashion Week showcases or A-list red carpet looks are no longer the first point of call.

According to new research from payment service Laybuy, less than 10% of Gen Z-ers use these as fashion inspiration. Instagram is their go-to, with 67% saying their fashion choices are mostly influenced by what they see when they scroll, with TikTok coming a close second (34%).

Aston spoke to Adele Cany, celebrity stylist and fashion expert to discuss the research and explain what makes these modern fashion icon wardrobes the most covetable by Gen Z-ers and beyond, how their looks influence what items and brands they buy, and reveal to how to get the look for themselves.
