Basildon Council has installed a free fitness trim trail for residents to enjoy within Gloucester Park.
Consisting of thirteen separate pieces of equipment, including monkey bars and a balance beam, the trim trail acts as a circuit around the footpath surrounding the central lake. All the pieces of equipment have a set of pictures attached to them to show how they should be used, and are suitable for those aged 14 and above and over 1.4m in height.
The equipment is compatible with a mobile app for Android and Apple devices called ‘Proludic Sport’. Users can put in Gloucester Park as their location, which brings up a list of exercise options for each individual piece of equipment and technical help with how to complete each exercise.
Chair of the Leisure and Environment Committee, Councillor Craig Rimmer, said:
“Gloucester Park is already a fantastic park, and the installation of this trim trail only improves its offering.
“Gloucester Park is well utilised by lots of individual runners and running groups. As such, the equipment is really well placed and will provide a very useful additional element to any workouts that happen in the park.
“We encourage residents to take advantage of the equipment and have fun using it. Hopefully this free, accessible equipment encourages our residents to be more active, and curious walkers-past decide to have a go and see how enjoyable outdoor activity can be.”
As part of their fitness sessions, in its activation week the trail has been used by the Backside to Trackside group, and Sport for Confidence among others.
Additional tags have also been placed around the equipment too for users of the wellbeing app StreetTag, where exercise and virtually scanning tags provides points that can add up to prizes.
