For Britain this will be the summer of road trips, as we swap long-haul holidays for staycations and relish the opportunity to explore more of what’s on our doorstop, following the Covid-19 outbreak.

But in a recent survey, the car journey has been pegged the most argument-inducing part of a trip – with drivers navigating both fallouts AND directions as they eagerly take to the roads following lockdown.

By making small changes to the way we approach long car journeys, we can make a big difference to how fun they are. It’s as easy as following Laverne’s advice to make long car journeys easy. We can’t help them sort backseat niggles that can be a distraction to drivers but there are things we can do to prevent them.

The new research, commissioned by car insurer Ageas, also reveals it’s our backseat passengers causing the most arguments, with 42% of parents confirming it’s mostly down to their childrens’ bad behaviour.

Aston spoke to TV psychologist Laverne Antrobus who was on hand to discuss more about the small changes we can make to avoid arguments in the car.
