Listen: winter lockdown drives up energy bills & payment fears

29th January 2021

With this latest lockdown coinciding with the cold, rain and short daylight hours of winter, tens of millions of us are holed-up at home, sometimes for days on end.

As a result, almost two thirds (65%) of non-smart, prepay meter households have seen their energy bills rise, according to new research.

The research, from Smart Energy GB, reveals that over half of people on non-smart prepay meters (57%) are worried about their energy bills. The sad fact is, for some families the choice between heating and eating is very real. But knowing what you are spending on energy in near-real time, can be a huge help when it comes to budgeting.

Aston spoke to Fflur Lawton from Smart Energy GB to discuss this new research and offer advice for those who have found themselves with greater bills this month.
