Whether you live in a new build block of flats, a cottage by the sea or a Georgian townhouse, four months is a really long time to be stuck inside a home, especially if it is bland, uninspiring or not to our tastes.

Increased time within our four walls has made almost a fifth (18%) of us want to change the style of our home with 16% unhappy with the décor. Over half, 55% of people say being in lockdown has made them value their home space more and they will now take more pride in how it looks, according to new research from Home Builders Federation which also shows 16% are now more interested in interior design.

Social media seems to be the place most people turn to when it comes to finding tips, tricks and ideas for their home, with 23% of 25-34 year olds scrolling at least once a day to look for inspiration.

Meanwhile, 38% of us admit we will not take photos inside our home if it is not photo-ready and 19% have actually spent time cleaning a specific room to create ‘the perfect photo’ background before posting pictures.

Aston spoke to Sophie Robinson, interior designer and judge on BBC TV show “The Great Interior Design Challenge” and Steve Turner, director of communications at Home Builders Federation to discuss the research in further detail, the current home design trends and also about New Homes Week Unlocked.
