National Restaurant Awards help raise funds for hospitality workers affected by coronavirus

According to trade body UK Hospitality’s latest quarterly tracker, the hospitality sector saw a catastrophic collapse in revenue during the second quarter of 2020 with sales plummeting 87%.

Due to these recent events, the UK restaurant industry’s number one event and awards ceremony, the Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards, was not able to take place. Instead, the organisers of the awards have joined forces to bring the UK’s best chefs, restaurateurs and the foodie community together and create a charity auction with a whole host of experiences with all proceeds going to support the hospitality industry.

Partnering with industry charity Hospitality Action, the Awards are raising substantial funds for those whose livelihoods are at risk of disappearing as a direct consequence of the pandemic.

Restaurants and chefs from the Top 100 list past and present have come up with a host of mouth-watering experiences to create truly one-of-a-kind lots. The Top 100 Auction also includes international experiences, including meals at world-renowned Spanish restaurants El Celler de Can Roca and Tickets (flights and accommodation included).

Aston spoke to Stefan Chomka, editor of the Restaurant Magazine to discuss more about the fundraising event.
