International Men’s Day

19th November 2020
Posted by Aston Avery

International Men’s Day falls on the 19th of November. One of the 6 key pillars that the day looks to raise awareness of is men’s health and wellbeing.

As we reach the mid-way point of England’s second lockdown, men and boys are more vulnerable than ever and if not supported figures of male sexual violence could rise.

Figures suggest each year, 12,000 men experience rape, attempted rape or sexual assault in England and Wales alone. However, only 15% of male victims report it to the police and of those who are able to come forward, it takes an average of 26 years to do so.

According to Survivors UK 12,000 incidents each year is just the tip of the iceberg, and they suspect that 15% is an overestimate of the percentage who do come forward.

Aston spoke to Alex Feis-Bryce, CEO at Survivors UK to discuss about International Men’s Day and also raise awareness on male sexual violence.
