Dust has long been just a minor grievance – a nightmare for those suffering from allergies – but a mild annoyance for parents, or those with finnicky in-laws who judge based on the amount found in those hard-to-reach places.

It is safe to say very few of us have thought long and hard about what is in the dust in our homes. Beyond the visible components, our general understanding of what it is made of, or what could be living in it, is very limited.

Today, Dyson unveils the results of its first ever annual global dust study, investigating people’s cleaning habits and behaviours and delving deeper into our understanding of household dust and the impact it can have on our wellbeing.

Aston spoke to Tom McVey, principle floorcare innovation engineer at Dyson to discuss this new research further, explain what exactly is in the dust in our homes, and share his tips for the best way to clean your home to ensure it is hygienic and boost wellbeing.
