MP welcomes vaccine announcement

Yesterday came the good news that one of the main coronavirus vaccine contenders, the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, has been found to be 90% effective at protecting people against the virus.

These findings will be subjected to peer-review and medical regulators worldwide, including in the UK, will study the safety data. If the vaccine is approved, we will be ready to start using it as earlier this year the Government ordered 40 million doses of the vaccine, enough for about a third of the population (two doses are required).

This is in addition to the over 300 million doses from five other vaccine candidates, including the Oxford vaccine.

John Baron MP commented on the news:

“This is excellent news, and suggests an end to the coronavirus pandemic is truly in sight. This vaccine has proved even more successful than its creators imagined, and the fact that it works against the virus is a good indication that other vaccine candidates will also be successful.”

“However, despite this good news it is important that we all continue to respect the coronavirus restrictions. The virus will remain dangerous until the vaccine has been rolled out widely, but there is good reason to believe there is light at the end of the tunnel.”
