New formula reveals our relationships during lockdown

Lockdown has presented couples with an unusual relationship problem: an overload of time spent together. After months of being cooped up at home 24/7, with nothing to do and nowhere to go, a lack of personal space has shined a light on our loved one’s habits that were once only mildly irritating and new relationships have fast-tracked to that of married couples.

The latest research from Groupon reveals two in five (41%) couples living together during lockdown admit that the months have felt more like years with their other halves, who, when not glued to the TV, have been glued to their side. What’s more, a new mathematical equation shows that the average couple has clocked up just over three years and three months in ‘Lockdown Years’.

The research coincides with the release a formula created by mathematician Bobby Seagull which quantifies the additional time that couples have spent together during the pandemic.

Aston spoke to relationship expert Sarah Louise Ryan to discuss the impact the lockdowns have had on couples relationships – both positive and negative, and how to strengthen relationships as restrictions lift and life begins to return to normal.
