It’s been a tough few months for many of us but for people living in England with a long-term health condition, lockdown has been particularly challenging both physically and mentally, with two-thirds of people living with long term health conditions saying that getting outdoors for physical activity is crucial for their mental health – something that has been difficult for people whilst shielding or self-isolating.
With lockdown beginning to lift many of us are starting to feel comfort in life turning back to normality but a staggering 55% of people living with a long-term health condition feel anxious about lockdown, ending with 4 in 10 worrying about other people’s hygiene.
The research was commissioned by We Are Undefeatable, a campaign led by a collaboration of 15 leading health and social care charities to support and inspire some of the 43% of people in England who live with a health condition to be active in a way that works with their condition.
We Are Undefeatable is today launching various new measures, including 5in5 – a new library of customisable mini workouts that are perfect for starting out with a new activity, a virtual assistant tool on social media to help with activity planning and motivation called My Daily Undefeatable, and the piloting of a virtual walking football team and dance squad.
Aston spoke to Neil Tester from Richmond Group of Charities to discuss more about the We Are Undefeatable initiatives and the research findings:
