The headteacher of Basildon Academies, Dr Rory Fox, has quit over a row for the English and mathematics curriculum.

The £50 million refurbished academies had recently been placed in the ‘special measures’ category in March and struggled in the English and mathematics areas.

The headteacher who had been in charge from September 2011, has brought in high quality teaching staff to help the school improve its teaching and results.

The results were the second best in the Basildon area, with 45% of students achieving at least five passes at grades A* to C including English and mathematics.

Dr Rory Fox is set further his career and face a new challenge of work when he leaves the academies in March 2013.
