Last night, Basildon Council elected its new mayor for the year ahead. David Burton-Sampson is a labour councillor and a part of the newly formed Basildon Borough Alliance.
Speaking to Gateway 97.8, Councillor Burton-Sampson said:
“I am truly honoured and privileged to have been elected into the role of Mayor for Basildon Borough and especially during Basildon’s 70th anniversary year. I intend to return democracy to our council chamber where all elected members are free to debate and bring forward appropriate matters for discussion.”
He went on to say:
“I am also looking forward to meeting many more members of our great communities over the coming year and pushing forward with my ambitious fundraising efforts ensuring as many charitable and community organisations as possible within the borough benefit from my work.”
