The Fun Walk is a charitable event held each year at Barleylands Farm in aid of numerous local charities. Having started in 2002, the event goes from strength to strength and last year helped nearly 100 charities raise £100,000 – bringing total monies raised since 2002 to £1,064,000.
Indeed, due to the Fun Walk’s growth, the committee has invited the Basildon, Billericay & Wickford CVS [itself a registered charity] to help organise the event this year.
A unique feature of the event is that local companies and individuals donate into a Bonus Pot. This bonus is distributed to all participating charities on a pro rata basis depending on, and in addition to, the money they raise themselves in sponsorship on the day. Donors are therefore able to help numerous charities across our communities – and some local businesses now channel all their charity funding through this event.
