The new leader of Basildon Council has set out his commitment to a friendlier, more collaborative way of working as his administration begins its term in office.

Councillor Andrew Baggott says he is keen for Basildon’s political leadership to set aside its differences with opposition members for the greater good and to be guided by residents on what is best for the borough going forward.

Cllr Baggott said:

“We welcome strong and incisive scrutiny from the opposition and that must continue but this change of administration brings an opportunity to reset the relationship and how we work with officers, the public and each other.

“We give our commitment that we will listen to residents about what they feel is right for our borough and we will be judged on our delivery of their priorities rather than personal attacks.

“As we move out of the pandemic it is crucial that we pull together in the same direction to bring future growth and prosperity to our borough.”
