Thurrock Council’s Cabinet has approved a new strategy to help tackle homelessness in the borough which ensures collaboration, partnership and communication are central to making sure that support is provided to those that need it.

The Homelessness Prevention and Rough Sleeping Strategy 2020-25 sets out the legislative background around this issue, highlights the good work already taking place and future plans to help residents that find themselves at risk of becoming homeless or experiencing homelessness.

The main strategic themes identified by the strategy are the importance of working collaboratively with partners; a focus on the health and wellbeing of those that approach the council’s homelessness service for assistance; making sure that suitable accommodation is provided and accessible to those that need it; and ensuring that excellent support and service is provided.

Cllr Barry Johnson, Cabinet Member of Housing, said:

“We have worked with teams from across the council and outside agencies to develop a strategy which puts those in need first and makes sure that they get all the help they need.“I look forward to this work continuing as we all come together to achieve the shared goal of preventing and tackling homelessness in Thurrock.”
