Posted by Johnny Jenkins

Thurrock Council is supporting Carer’s Week with a series of events and workshops across the borough this month.

Carer’s Week takes place from Monday 10 to Sunday 16 June this year and recognises the contribution given by the 6.5 million people in the UK who are carers for a relative or friend who is ill, disabled, elderly or in need of emotional support.

To celebrate the week, members of the council’s Adults Social Care Providers Service will be hosting a series of awareness raising events in Thurrock. These will take place from 10am to 4pm on Monday 10 June, Tuesday 11 June and Wednesday 12 June at Sainsburys, Howard Road, Chafford Hundred, Grays, RM16 6YJ.

The team will be promoting the wide variety of services available to support carers. Details on these services and the benefits and support available from the NHS and Gov.uk for carers can be found on www.thurrock.gov.uk/adult-care.

Free workshops including a Calming Crafts session and a Mindfulness workshop will also be taking place at Thurrock Adult Community College during the week for carers who are 19 years-old or older. For more information and to book your place please visit www.thurrock.gov.uk/community-college/free-workshops-for-carers.

Cllr Sue Little, Portfolio Holder for Children and Adults Social Care, said:

“It is important that we not only recognise the many carers in our community but celebrate the terrific work they do every single day. I am proud of the variety of services we have available that support members of our community who require care, which include meals on wheels, outreach and reablement services, day centres, extra care, home care and a number of residential homes available across the borough.”
