Basildon Council is set to consider the future of Beauchamps Field, near Royal Oak Drive in Wickford.

The land falls within the local Green Belt and the Neighbourhood and Public Spaces committee will start the process of developing options for the area as a public open space at its next meeting on 10 June.

Chair of the Neighbourhood and Public Spaces committee Cllr David Harrison said:

“This is excellent news for Wickford. This will add another 21.5 acres of public open space alongside the fantastic Wickford Memorial Park.

“This will be welcomed by all of the people of Wickford, and later in the year we will bring forward plans for its future management.”

Wickford North Councillor Eunice Brockman added:

“What a fantastic addition to the public open space in Wickford.”

As part of the process of transforming the use of the land it is anticipated that consultation with local residents about their views on how to use the space will form part of the development process later in the year.

The site was formerly used as a sports field by Beauchamps High School whose lease recently ended.
