2012 was full of highlights in the UK and at Gateway Community Radio. It was the year of sport when the London 2012. It was also the year of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee where Gary Barlow organised a special concert with big names such as Jessie J and will.i.am.
Talking of Jessie and Will who were both coaches for the Voice UK, there was a Voice UK star in the studio on 28th August. Jessica Hammond was on Team Jessie and came into the studio and performed for the people of Basildon and East Thurrock.  The full story can be found here  2012 Jessica-Hammond
Eastgate Community Radio had live Olympic coverage going on during July and August in 2012 and the locals enjoyed that thoroughly. The Olympic Torch visited Basildon and the locals also enjoyed having a glimpse of the 2012 Olympics in their town.
The staff at Gateway met the Prime Minister at Number 10 and David Cameron said, “Gateway 97.8 provides a fantastic service for the local community in Basildon.  The training courses and work experience opportunities it offers to local students and unemployed people help them to gain valuable skills to gain employment.” The staff were incredibly proud when Mr Cameron said this.
The staff of the station also visited Big Ben and climbed the clock tower. Working at Gateway has really opened up so many opportunites for the volunteers.
