The year may well be very young still, but it didn’t take me long to get out of the house for my first little adventure of 2019 – and you know I love my road trips ! Although this wasn’t just a road trip, as it involved a hovercraft and a 1930s London Underground train, the occasion being a quick visit to the Isle Of Wight for the first time to celebrate A13 Annie’s birthday on 3rd January. That date has not been kind to us in previous years, last year we were nearly blown off our feet by fearsome winds walking along the beach to a cafe near the New Forest, but this time the weather was really rather good for early January, not too cold, very sunny and most importantly DRY !! The traffic was mostly clear down to Southsea where we both boarded a hovercaft for the first time in our long lives and zipped across the Solent to Ryde where we connected with the Isle’s one train service, using old re-furbished tube stock, to reach our lunch destination – and fab novelty golf!! – at Shanklin. A brilliant day, topped off with a cheeky Chinese and “Mamma Mia 2” on DVD back home in Essex.
All this has absolutely nothing to do with my soul show whatsoever, but it did start 2019 off well, blew away a few remaining cobwebs and has put me in a good mood so far this month which has seen inspiration flowing through my veins to pick out two hours of terrific soul, jazz-funk & disco goodies for you to enjoy on a Monday at 7pm.
