Evelyn Griffin and Sue Gilmartin came to Gateway this morning to tell us all about the drive to find 100 foster carers for children awaiting placements in the local area, particularly teenagers, sibling groups and those with disabilities.
Sue has been a foster carer for 28 years and speaks passionately about the value and sense of reward it brings. Evelyn dispelled myths and allied fears that some may have about becoming a single carer, continuing to work, or not owning your own home.
They encourage interested people to come along to one of their events:
- Wednesday 14th May – town centre outside Marks & Spencer’s
- Saturday 17th May – town centre outside Fountain Square
- Tuesday 20th May 7pm – Holiday Inn, Basildon
- Saturday 28th June 11am – Holiday Inn, Basildon
