Giving at Christmas

10th December 2019
Posted by Aston Avery

A too commercial Christmas? 72% of us now believe Christmas has become too commercial. Nevertheless, the spirit of giving remains as strong as ever with 1 in 5 (21%) saying they’d prefer to give a gift to someone that will help others – rather than buying something that will be ignored beyond Christmas Day. The majority (74%) agree they’re more likely to shop from a business supporting a charity this Christmas.

However, 59% of us say we find it difficult to contribute to charity during the holiday season because we’re short on funds, or simply don’t have time (5%). Wouldn’t it be great if a donation was made on your behalf every time you bought something for a loved one? PayPal has partnered with a number of popular brands this Christmas, making it easier to donate to charities focused on empowering youth. When shoppers pay with PayPal to buy a gift from notonthehighstreet’s Christmas collection or buy something on Nike.com or the Nike app, it will make a donation to youth charities. This means customers can help good causes this December without any extra time or cost.

Aston spoke to Rob Skinner, communications director at PayPal UK to discuss the research and also about which charities they’re supporting this Christmas season.
