Happy birthday to our local radio Gateway 97.8 which celebrates 10 years on air today!
The station was launched on the 25th September 2010, and has been serving the community of Basildon and East Thurrock ever since.
Over the past ten years, thousands of visitors have passed through the doors to go on air, to have training or to get involved in some of the community projects run over the past decade.
The station has won many awards and accolades since its launch, with the most recent being the Princess Royal Training Awards, which the station won earlier this year. Gateway has also won awards from the Queen, the Prime Minister and local groups.
Celebrities and royals have visited the studios, based in the Eastgate Centre, to take part in some of the live and pre-recorded shows the station offers.
The big birthday will be celebrated today with a socially-distanced visit from Diddy David Hamilton, who presents Million Sellers on Sundays, and a glass of Bucks Fizz with popstar Cheryl Baker.
Our Radio Club youth group will have a socially-distanced party this Saturday, including a workshop from BBC Essex.
And on Sunday, Steve King braves the shave, as he has a head shave for charity!
