On December 2006 Luke James from Chadwell St Mary, Essex, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma – a form of Cancer which starts in white blood cells which are part of the body’s immune system.  Luke’s life instantly turned into a negative down fall, his partner Kathryn’s efforts to encourage Luke to maintain positive and have faith in the treatment failed. One day whilst receiving treatment in Basildon Hospital a nurse passed him a leaflet providing him with information about an amazing charitable organisation – The Willow Foundation – an organisation dedicated to bringing special days to the seriously ill who are between the ages 16 and 40 years of age and live in the United Kingdom.

Luke contacted the Willow Foundation and asked them if they could provide any support for him in renewing his wedding vows with his partner and make it a special day to remember. The Willow Foundation helped Luke organise, prepare and support this special day for him and his partner. Just before the ceremony took place Luke was given the all clear from the hospital, the treatment had worked and he was on his way to recovery. The Renewal of vows ceremony took place and Willow made this spectacular day, a day that Luke and his partner Kathryn would cherish forever.

This week on ‘The Inspiration Zone’ on Gateway 97.8 I will be speaking to Luke who in 2018 will be running four marathons in one month in order to raise £20,000 for The Willow Foundation. The Marathons will take place in Manchester, Brighton, London and Milton Keynes. Luke wants to support the great work the charity conducts and needs your help to raise this tough target. When I asked Luke why he is putting himself through this gruesome task he replied, “Jag, when I needed support The Willow Foundation were there for me, I want them to continue to support people who are in similar circumstances as I was. This money will go towards ensuring that they continue to provide special days for those who are seriously ill in the UK just like they did for me and my wife Kathryn.”
