It started over the August Bank Holiday Weekend with a small damp patch spotted on the kitchen ceiling just over the toaster. A problem was identified within a week in the bathroom directly above in the form of a gently leaking pipe. For a fortnight, temporary measures were taken to restrict a small drip whilst a friend of a friend came back from holiday to “fix” the problem on his return. And it ended on Thursday with a small watefall running onto the kitchen unit with an exhausted pile of saturated towels in the washing machine !! Thankfully, a month of increasing stress came to a happy and unexpectedly inexpensive conclusion when the “friend of a friend” turned up to inspect the situation, leading to another “friend of a friend of a friend” arriving within the hour to work his plumbing magic and return Old Gits HQ to its previous calm state.
It had been quite tricky up til then, making sure that I wasn’t away from home for more than 7 hours at a time, so that the towels held the water till I got back, also remembering to “towel up” just before going to bed, then earlier this week, ensuring that a large enough bowl or bucket was placed at the scene of the crime once the towels could take no more ! Not the ideal scenario in which to head to the studio on a Monday night for my show, but you must have your weekly live fix of soul, jazz-funk & disco from the 70s & 80s, so I gritted my teeth and locked the door behind me, armed with my usual bag of CDs & MP3s and a tasty playlist.
Take a listen to the repeat play between 5pm & 7pm this evening and keep an ear out for signs of worry in my voice between songs ! I think it was actually a pretty good show, despite everything, but I am looking forward to a “normal” Monday night for the next live episode, confident I will return to a silent, dry house ! 😉
