I decided this week it was time for a tidy up, but if you were to come round to my house expecting freshly hoovered carpets and neatly polished furniture you would be disappointed ! No, it was time to tinker with my “Old Gits Soul Show”, but only a little bit, with some different ideas to run by my lovely loyal listener for the five Mondays in April. As it was exactly 29 years to the day this Monday that Marvin Gaye was tragically shot dead by his father, I decided to play one of his vintage early Motown tracks as the “Short Trousered Soul” tune, but was so spoilt for choice I opted to play one EVERY week this month instead ! The “Old Gits Jazzy Bit” is temporarily replaced by “The Not So Soulful Bit” with the first in a series of hits from the dancefloor that didn’t actually feature a song but took lots of fabulous credible samples from old classics to create an exciting fresh (at the time!) sound. In a similar vein, I am going to be using some MP3s that were kindly sent to me over recent weeks in place of the “Tasty 12”. It seems to be “all the rage” at the moment to re-edit soul & disco anthems, taking the best bits and using them more and in a changed order too, thus creating a different but familiar end product which in most cases turns out really well – and these are the ones you’ll be hearing on the show in April ! Finally, as we are almost in “Weekender Season” I’ve brought back a few tried and trusted anthems from the floors of places like The Zero 6 and The Goldmine for a repeat play, just to give you something to sing along to while dancing round your handbag in the bedroom in between my usual terrific selection of newly discovered gems and almost forgotten favourites. Yep, you can tell can’t you ? My enthusiasm levels are HIGH ! Come and share them this Saturday at 5pm then check the brand new show LIVE on Monday at 7pm … 🙂
