If the pandemic has brought out the reader in you, then you’re not alone. In fact, last year saw more than 140,000 digital magazine issues distributed and read 99 million times on Readly, the digital magazine app.

Looking ahead to 2021, following a year of doomscrolling and relentless breaking news alerts on our smartphones, it’s no surprise that we want to read less about Brexit (28%), US politics (28%) and coronavirus (27%) but more about food and drink (27%), TV, film and cinema (27%) and music, arts and culture (19%),  according to new research from Readly.

Donald Trump (49%) tops the list of people we want to read less about over the coming year – compared to the just 18% who want to hear less about Joe Biden. The Kardashian-Jenner family (43%) and other British reality TV stars from the likes of TOWIE and Love Island (40%) are hot on Trump’s heels in the ranking. After a tumultuous year, 35% of us want to read less about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2021, compared to just half that (17%) for Prince William and Kate Middleton.
