Thousands of teenagers will be receiving their GCSE results today 23 August. Current reports suggest that nationally grades are below last years results.
The results published by exam boards show that the grades of core subjects including English, Maths and Science have fallen significantly.
69.4% of entries were awarded with a grade C or above, 0.4% lower than last year. This is the first year since the exams were introduced, 24 years ago, that results have fallen. Teachers are concerned that examiners were harsh in their marking of papers.
Do not be disheartened by national results, as local statistics are yet to be released. The Gateway 97.8 team wish all of the students receiving their results the best of luck.
