Essex Police release human trafficking suspects after mistaking a 31 year old for a teen

A numberĀ of men arrested on suspicion of people trafficking have been released after a girl believed to be aged 15, found in their van turned out to be 31.

Essex Police were called early on Saturday morning to reports of an overturned van towing a caravan on the northbound M11 in Essex.

Two of the men, from Poland, were originally arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and people trafficking after crashing between junctions 8 and 9 on the M11.

 

Another man, also from Poland was arrested on suspicion of immigration offences. After questioning, officers said the three men had not committed offences and none of them will face charges.

The 31 year olf women found, from Vietnam, was detained on suspected immigration offences,but has since been released until her case is dealt with.

 

Essex Police have not yet revealed how the age of the woman was mistaken.
