Two families have been made homeless following a fire in a first floor flat.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to tackle the fire in Langland Close, Corringham, shortly after 6:30pm on Monday June 23.

Crews arriving at the scene reported that a third of the flat, measuring 5m x 5m, was well alight and the whole of the property smoke logged.

Smoke was spreading to neighbouring properties.

Once the fire was out, crews used a high pressure fan to clear the properties of smoke. Fire did not spread to the second flat but it suffered water and smoke damage, making it uninhabitable.

No one was injured, though a woman suffering from shock was left in the care of the Ambulance Service.
A joint Police and Fire Service investigation will be carried out to establish the cause.
