Gateway 97.8 has won a grant from the Big Lottery as part of its work it provides in and around Basildon and East Thurrock.

The Gateway Training Academy will, with the funding, enable the Eastgate studios to be adapted for courses it currently provides.

The station, since becoming an OCN learning centre, has provided local schools with accredited courses. This is in addition to its partnership with Seevic College in providing radio courses as part of its new NCFE radio course schedule.

Business Development Manager Danny Lawrence commented “This is the second time we have had a lottery grant and the project does so much for the local community.

“It is not just about what you hear on air – we provide training training and skills for school children, young adults, and a wide variety of people.

“The latest grant will provide much needed equipment to enable the station to become more of a training provider.”

Gateway 97.8 have already won the High Sheriff Award for its community work and announced more students had gained the Diana Award. News of this reached London and HRH The Duke Of Gloucester has planned a visit to see the work that goes on in May.
