Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths of two people in Billericay.

Police were contacted at 8pm on Monday, September 3 following concerns for the occupants of a bungalow on Pitsea View Road in Crays Hill. Officers arrived and found the bodies of a man and a woman.

Provisional post-mortem examination results showed that both individuals died from gunshot wounds, with the man being formally identified as 37-year-old Mark Tyler from Carlisle Way in Pitsea. Although no formal identification procedure has yet been completed on the woman, officers believe the woman to be Mark Tyler’s mother, 79-year-old Maureen Tyler from Pitsea View Road in Crays Hill.

Senior Investigating Officer, DCI Lucy Robinson, said: “It is still unclear as to when Maureen and Mark Tyler died. Enquiries are ongoing in order to ascertain the sequence of events which led to their respective deaths. With this in mind, we’re looking to speak with anyone who has been along Pitsea View Road, Gardiners Lane North or the surrounding area since the end of August or the first week of September.”

At this stage, police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths, of which Maureen Tyler’s is being treated as murder and that of her son as non-suspicious.

Anyone with information in connection with this murder is urged to contact detectives at Brentwood’s Major Investigation Team on 101, email them on [email protected] call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Members of the media are advised that we should be in a position to release the formal identification of the woman on Thursday afternoon (September 6).
