Roadworks Delayed Due to Rare Birds

Drivers have birds to thank for delaying major roadworks from Rayleigh to Tilbury.  National Grid engineers found two dozen of the Avocets, a rare bird, which are a protected species, which meant the roadworks have had to be rescheduled.

Works are due to restart with night time closures over the weekend of July 27th  & 28th  on the A13, A130 and Sadlers Farm interchange and then again in August, finishing in September.  Further works will take place next year between June-October.

Avocets are a very rare, black and white bird which nest in colonies of up to 150 pairs.  They are faithful to the site where they have bred successfully for years to come.  They lay their eggs between April-and late June.
