A man is due to appear in court later this month (September) after having been charged with drink-driving in Grays.

A road crash happened when a blue Vauxhall Astra and a black Hyundai Coupe struck each other at the junction of Southend Road and Lodge Lane shortly before 10:30pm on Saturday, September 8.

The two Astra passengers were conveyed by paramedics to Basildon University Hospital after sustaining neck injuries which are believed not to be serious.

The Hyundai driver was arrested at the scene and has now subsequently been charged with one count of driving while under the influence of alcohol. The 35-year-old man from the Grays area has been released on police bail until his appearance at Basildon Magistrates Court on Thursday, September 29.

Members of the media can obtain his details by contacting Essex Police Press Office on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 28.

Less than 24 hours later, another incident happened on the exact same road.

This collision happened at 9.10pm on Sunday, September 9, and involved a silver Honda CRV, a white and red Suzuki motorcycle, black London taxi, and a blue Mazda 6 which was stationary.

The motorcyclist was taken by ambulance to Basildon Hospital then transferred to Queens Hospital in Romford where he is being treated for a serious head injury.

The arrested man has been released on police bail pending further enquiries until October 29.
