Olympics fans filed into the park in Stratford today for the first big day of action after the glitz and glamour of last night’s opening ceremony. Among the Team GB highlights, Mark Cavendish goes for cycling road race glory.

Buckingham Palace featured heavily as the London 2012 Olympic action got underway properly. Beach Volley was played on Horse Guards Parade earlier on. The Mall saw the climax of the Olympic men’s Road Cycling, which got underway with Team GB’s Mark Cavendish going for gold alongside his all-star Tour de France colleagues, so it’s all pretty stuff tight stuff.

There’s good news for Team GB in the rowing, Brits Heather Stanning and Helen Glover are into the final of the Women’s Pair after claiming an Olympic Record in their semi-final.

Swimmer Hannah Miley is a medal hope in the 400-metre individual medley. Also, USA’s Michael Phelps squeezed into the final of the 400-metre individual medley, his big challenger Ryan Lochte put in a far more impressive performance to finish second fastest.

And the women’s football is back, with Hope Powell’s side looking for a second victory when they take on Cameroon at Hampden Park.

Kurt Wilson was also joined in the Studio by special guest, Michelle Durant, on Olympic Breakfast, who was part of the ‘Green and Pleasant Land’ section of the Opening Ceremony last night.
