Paralympic Swimming Team at Basildon Sporting Village

The Japanese Paralympic Swimming athletes have been training at the Basildon Sporting Village, this weekend, in preparation for the upcoming Paralympic Games.

The talented team includes a number of medal hopefuls including; Junichi Kawai who has won a total of 21 medals in six Paralympic games (five gold, nine silver and seven bronze medals), Kyosuke Takayuki Suzuki, the current 50m breaststroke world record holder and Beijing 2008 gold medalist, and Kyosuke Oyama, a Beijing 2008 4x60m relay silver medalist.

The £38 million Basildon Sporting Village opened in 2011 and features a 50m Olympic-size swimming pool.

London 2012 Paralympic Games will begin Wednesday 29 August and will close Sunday 9 September. The Gateway 97.8 team wish all of the athletes competing at the Paralympic Games the best of luck.
