Summary of Tuesday's events

Team GB canoeist David Florence has missed out on a medal at the Olympics. He’s failed to qualify for the final of the slalom event. Florence won silver four years ago in Beijing and came into the Games as the world number 1. His next chance of success comes later this week in the doubles.

Andy Murray and Laura Robson have been given a wildcard entry into the mixed
doubles at the Olympics. It’s after Great Britain was given the place by the International Tennis Federation. The duo played together in the 2010 Hopman Cup.

The British Olympic Association expect Phillips Idowu to be ready for the London Games. The triple jumper’s fitness has been in doubt, and he failed to attend a pre-tournament training camp in Portugal. BOA chef de mission Andy Hunt says he’s “making good progress”, and they expect him to compete.

There’s been a right royal silver for Great Britain at the Olympics. Zara Phillips and her pals have finished second in the team equestrian. There’s been a big blow in the canoe slalom, as world number one David Florence failed to qualify for the final in his event. Andy Murray has cruised through to the third round of the men’s singles tennis at the Olympics. He booked his place in the last 16 with a straight sets victory over Finland’s Jarkko Nieminen. Murray’s next oppponent will be Marcos Baghdatis.

Late faults for Mary King and Tina Cook in the individual event saw them finish outside of the top three. Earlier, Zara Phillips was part of the Team GB squad that won silver in the team competition.

Zara Dampney and Shauna Mullin have been beaten in their second group match at the women’s Olympic beach volleyball. They went down in straight sets to Italy at Horse Guards Parade. Dampney and Mullin won their opening match at London 2012.

Britain’s female gymnasts have missed out on a medal in their Olympic team final. They’ve finished sixth out of eight. That’s only one place lower than their best ever result at the recent world championships. The USA took the gold, with Russia getting silver and Romania bronze.

There are swimming finals tonight for Hannah Miley and Caitlin McClatchey, while the men go for a medal in the 4-by-200 relay. Meanwhile, 70-thousand-plus are expected at Wembley for the Team GB women’s football with Brazil. Earlier, the GB women finished outside of the medals in the team gymnastics.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Milos Raonic have made history at London 2012 in the tennis. They’ve set a new record for the longest ever match at an Olympic Games. It’s after the deciding set lasted a mammoth 48 games. After nearly 4 hours on court, Tsonga eventually came through 25-23 in the third set.
