A record 53.6 million metric tonnes of e-waste was generated worldwide in 2019, up 9.2 Mt in five years, according to the latest Global E-Waste Monitor.

E-waste includes anything with plugs, cords and electronic components and, as flexible working has become normal for many businesses in the UK, the issue of ethically disposing of old tech is one that most SME owners must now consider.

In the last 12 months, 65% of UK employees have had at least one piece of new technology from their company and 39% admit there is IT equipment in their workplace that has gone unused since the first lockdown. Stone Group has seen a 64% increase in hardware sales (laptops, PCs etc) this year between January-June against the same period in 2019.
