It’s so different being in a radio studio presenting a show to being out on the road doing gigs – there are plusses and minusses on both sides, but the big difference being MONEY !!! I usually get a decent fee for going out and providing a disco roadshow for a wedding or a birthday party and am quite happy to play many tracks that wouldn’t get in the studio door (if we had one !) at Gateway on a Monday night, as long as people are enjoying themselves. Often I get free food and drinks too, meet some interesting guests and when things are going well the satisfaction of instant good feedback in the formof a full, buzzing dancefloor ! Which is why I occasionally find myself prepared to put myself in a ridiculous situation such as driving down a sloping, slightly muddy field, with a full car load of DJ gear, with the prospect of much more rain during the night, to set up a party in a marquee, not knowing if I would be able to leave it again at the end ! As it happens it was a really lovely do on every level, the rain kept off and I got back up the hill (just!) and home so I can type this blog for you – but I am now looking forward to amuch less “exciting adventure” into Basildon Town Centre for my next show …
