Algebra, fractions and long division – even now they’re adults more than a quarter of parents say they’re completely baffled when it comes to their kids’ homework.

New research conducted by White Rose Maths found that maths is the subject where help is most needed but as many as three quarters (76%) of mums and dads confess to feeling guilty because they don’t feel they support their child enough when it comes to schoolwork. Over a third (35%) say they often ended up feeling utterly stressed out at homework time.

It’s not just the parents who are stressed. Kids aged 8-13 who took part in the poll revealed their parents often make mistakes (21% and confuse them) (22%) whilst helping.

Aston spoke to Michael Underwood, former TV presenter now newly turned teacher to discuss the research in further detail and Michael was on hand to offer advice on how to keep your child engaged into helping them out with their homework.
