A new study published today has revealed the extent of problems parents have faced while homeschooling their children.

Millions of parents have spent the last few months homeschooling their children due to Covid-19 enforced school closures and it seems many issues with homeschooling may stem from Brits being unsuitably equipped to support their children’s learning. A new study of more than 2,000 parents with children aged 4-14 has shown that Children are spending an average of 90 minutes a day watching video for home learning, with a third of parents (32%) saying they don’t have the time to suitably teach from home and a quarter of parents (24%) saying they don’t have the right technology.

69% of parents are using teaching resources sent by the school and 52% are using free downloads from education resources websites, and while 60% chose paper over screen as a more stimulating source of education for their children, 44% said that the price of ink prevented them from printing all the materials they would have liked to. Only 19% of parents surveyed have received financial support from their employer in buying their home printer and 93% agreed that a cheap, unlimited supply of printer ink would be important in supporting their home teaching.

Aston spoke to Ross Morrison McGill education expert, author and blogger and Nico Michaelides, head of consumer sales at Epson to discuss the research in further detail.
