Car crash leaves several people trapped and road closed

A major road on Canvey was closed on Monday afternoon following a crash.

The A130 Canvey Way, one of only two routes onto the island, had been closed following an accident involving a single vehicle at around 1:30pm, which left the road and ended up in a ditch.

Emergency services arrived at the scene where several people were believed to be trapped in a Peugeot car. Firefighters from Canvey and Rayleigh Weir assisted paramedics in releasing the casualties and they were out by 2:25pm.

The road was closed between Sadlers Farm roundabout and Waterside Farm roundabout before re-opening at 3:20pm, but surrounding routes still remained heavily congested as traffic was being diverted via Benfleet.

It is not known what condition the casualties are in.
