Pitsea Residents' uproar to save Pitsea Pool

The local residents of Pitsea have been in dispute with the council ever since the closure of Pitsea swimming pool in favour of the towns regenertation. In recent development, the council have announced that Pitsea pool will change to private ownership in order to proceed with the knocking down of the building.

Despite the council’s multi-million pound redevelopment plans, campaigners are attempting to get 5000 signatures for a petition against the destruction of the pool.

The redevelopment plans for Pitsea include the restoration of shops and offices, as well as a Morrisons superstore, creating 350 new jobs and at least 200 construction jobs. Six new shops and a new market on the Railway Hotel site are also part of the plans.

Pitsea residents feel, however, that they are not being listened to and that the pool should remain part of the community.

A meeting by the council’s cabinet will take place 13th September to discuss the regeneration of Pitsea town centre by LCP (London and Cambridge Properties).
