Team GB finished a better than predicted third in the European Athletic Championships in a rain soaked Gateshead this weekend.
There were magnificent wins by Mo Farah who destroyed the opposition with a majestic sprint finish in the 5000m, Tiffany Porter in the 100m hurdles, wins in both men’s and women’s 4 x 400m relays plus Canvey’s 18 year old Jessica Judd also battling to win the 800m just days after finishing her A levels. Many of our athletes finished higher than predicted in their individual events.
This was Head Coach Peter Erikkson’s last meeting as he is retiring from athletics, he said “we got more points than we expected to get and the youngsters really stepped up and did some outstanding performances, watching them making their dreams is always the highlight for me”.
